The Great Social Shift: Is X Losing Its Grip?
Let’s be real, nobody asked for "X." And based on the vibes (and data), it’s safe to say most of us aren’t posting over there anymore.
We asked our network where they’re showing up online, and the results say a lot:
📊 "Do you actively post on Twitter (I’m never calling it X, so leave me alone)?"
Yes—but I make poor choices: 5%
No—why would anyone do that? 55%
No, but I do lurk over there: 31%
I switched to Threads: 9%
Shoutout to Amy for the perfect poll energy. This poll was taken via LinkedIn (to remain unbiased of course) and it speaks for itself.
So what’s going on here?
✅ X is becoming the ghost of social past – Between the rebrand confusion and content chaos, fewer people are using it actively, especially in professional spaces. The reality? You're not hopping on X to discover your next go-to brand, learn something meaningful, or actually walk away with value.
✅ Threads is threading the needle – Meta’s response to short-form thought-sharing is catching on, especially with users who want to connect without the doomscrolling energy. However, based on the poll, only 9% of you are actually jumping on the Threads boat, so is it a sinking one? Quite possibly.
✅ People want platforms that feel human again – Less noise, more value. Threads offers a cleaner space to share and engage without the algorithmic chaos. But let’s be honest, it’s still giving X in some ways. So will it stick once the “new” wears off? We’ll see.
Our take?
If your brand voice is conversational, community-focused, or bold opinions then X or Threads might be worth exploring. Engagement isn’t just about volume, it’s about where and how your audience wants to show up.
Let’s keep watching the space. Social media isn’t static, and your strategy shouldn’t be either.
